Hey guys, new to jet boats bought a 1976 Glastron jet boat with a new looking Berkeley 12je boat ran good on the first tour… only went about 75 mph tho… its a 23 foot with a cuddy… but I feel like it should be faster.. didn’t accelerate very fast either but at they’d very end of the trip I heard a snap… the impeller nor the shaft is turning.

1. Is there a coupler? And do I need to pull the engine to access it

2 should the boat go fast than this?

What may be the cause of the

Any advice?

Any pics of it?

Know nothing really about these boats or this jet (have seen some pics of the jets, but haven't played with them). But obviously if the impeller and shaft are not turning, it is broken. I know it is common these days to have a coupler (my boat and I believe all the Yammi's have them). In '76? No idea. And if it was an aftermarket add, then it is anyone's guess. I would get back there with some flashlight and poke around... Either you have a coupler and it has failed or the shaft has failed. Either way, you are going to at least need to be sliding the engine, I suspect--perhaps removing it.

Should the boat go faster than that? Well, not while it is broken like that... (sorry; couldn't resist). I guess what I would offer at this point is that having it go 75mph a) is pretty darn fast and b) apparently has gone beyond the limits of the system, as it broke something. So I would say from where I am sitting, that is probably as fast as (or faster than) it will go. Or should go.
