Anyone have a fix for this one or suggestions.

House battery died on one of the last trips out so replaced both with new batteries.

When powered everything back up and started up the boat the Tach's will not spin up and the Connext screen stays in the start up "White Yamaha" screen. The tach does a little bounce but none of the loud beep or Port tach full dial over when the key is turned on. Both motors fire up great and boat runs with no problems. Every year we have taken the batteries out for the winter and reinstalled with no issues

Tested both the power to the tach and the Connext and they are full 12.6v at the plug so no issues on power. Have read the Port tach controls the start up of the electronics and read here on the threads that someone had the same issue and replaced the screen but did not resolve the issue, only replacing the Port Tach did?

Have a Hydrophase cruise controller and its picking up all the motor info it always has since I put it in the boat the first year so know all the motor computers are working with no issue.

Anyone replace the Port tach and fix the issue or any suggestions on a test of fix on this? Can the computer be rebooted at the dealer? Heard the Port tach is not available or hard to get?

Pics are with the boat running.

Thought you already posted this and had suggestions? Same pictures and problem

Had posted to the FB page….no real response or insights

Thats where i saw it.
Ypu could have gotten a voltage spike with the battery change and fried the tach or connext.
Not sure which tach is the main i believe it has the extra plug going to it.

the port tach is the main….2 main plugs and then a jumper plug over to the starboard tach.

Makes sense for the tach getting a spike maybe when the house battery died…you can hear the faint motor noise and it shakes a bit but won’t roll over.

Any ideas how to test to see and what the ratings should be for the tach. Sounds like they are tough to get a replacement

Oem says unavailable which is total bullshit. I looked into it for my 16 ar240 and same thing. Discontinued on a 9 year old boat is crap. Dont know if there is other options out there. Do a search here in the classifieds there was a part out of a 2017 ar240 maybe those are still available

I saw the unavailable online made me cringe….seems to be a critical piece that fires the whole system up including the connext from what I have gleamed from different threads and reading. Hard to believe they stopped making replacements for such a critical piece.

Just dm’d a guy who is parting out his boat so hopefully. Otherwise will see if the dealer has any options to test to be a 100% sure and maybe can find a shop to rebuild.

Thanks

Maybe try reaching out to these guys…
They appear to primarily repair/replace the LCD screens, but they might be able to remedy the issue.

Yes, totally agree that Yamaha has made it very expensive and difficult to source a critical component which is unacceptable. It’s not only the tachs, but the older connext screens as well which are extremely expense to source.

I have checked with them weeks ago. They only repair the lcds and lenses. Unfortunately they dont repair the circuit board. They verify power and ground thats it

Update:

So interesting outing this past weekend...boat ran amazing as it has been with out the tachs and screen operating. Did notice the no wake mode buttons operated like normal, which did not notice before. We ended up camping out on the beach and fired up the boat the next morning. The tach made its wonderful buzz sound and actually rolled over, only did a half start up were it rolled up but did not hold at the top like it would normally but it did set the other tach off which rolled up and the screen went from the white yamaha start up screen into the connext start up screen. Tells you that port tach controls all the start up boot for the Connext screen.

Unfortunately the tach died again so everything went back to what it was. It actually did it twice over the course of the couple days out with the same effect.

Tells me its 99.9% that the Port tach is the issue. Still have to chat with the dealer and see if I can source a port tach out but pretty confident this is the route cause.

Perhaps you could consider removing the tachometer, opening it up, and inspecting for any signs of oxidation, possibly applying a contact cleaner spray. Following the transition from analog to digital systems in these boats, some individuals have expressed concerns regarding the suitability of such electronics in a marine environment. The functions controlled could easily be managed with simpler switches. This situation reflects poorly on the manufacturer, who could ideally investigate and offer solutions, but corporate constraints may hinder such efforts. The individual who designed the communication protocol could easily figure out a workaround or give the info out to help us, companies years ago would freely offer schematic diagrams of electrinc items not anymore in our throwawayengineering. It wouldn't be surprising if a 30% of these components fail within a decade.

Thanks Cambo! I think I am going to give that a try, hopefully not a sealed unit as have only seen the retainer ring on the back that gets unscrewed so you can pull the tach out.

Agree on the analog to the digital as clearly what was done thru the different year models until they went total digital and seems to be the exact issue.
Wish they did have the wiring diagram and the the Ohm ratings so could test the different diodes in it as I bet just one of them is bad and shutting it done. a couple penny diode!.

Will let you know what I find when I pull the gauge out!
