I'm looking at buying a 70" LED. I don't care about 3D, 4K ultra, curved, or internet connectivity. I just want a good reliable TV that has 240 refresh rate and won't break in 2 years. I was looking at the Vizios but have read several reviews that the screen goes black pretty early on and Vizio will not fix.

Any body have good experience with larger LED TVs??

For what it's worth, Barbie & I are pretty strong SAMSUNG supporters.
Reliability has never been an issue, and we particularly choose them for overall PICTURE QUALITY - which we deem #1.
Hoping this helps you, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA

PS - Only offering this in case you might not be aware:
If you buy from Costco, they DOUBLE the manufacturer's warranty (free !).
This would give you two years of protection, and they ship to home for free.

Changed the title of your post to add the word TV....I thought you were going to buy some really long LED strips to attach to the boat! LOL

I shopped for a while and wasn't looking for a 4K TV either, but ended up with one on an impulse buy as the picture was just awesome. Bought a 65" Sony as our entertainment center wouldn't fit anything larger. Very happy with it.

Is there a reason you want LED?

I have quite a few tvs from 19 inch to 132inch. I think I have one from every brand it seems. But by far the worst one is my 42inch visio. It went dead about 3 months after purchase and visio ships only referb tvs for warranty. I like my 55inch Samsung and a 65 inch jvc the best so far. Mitsubishi is right there also but that's older tv. Not led. I would stay away from visio.

The 4k tvs look really nice but 6 months ago there were no 4k signals or devices to feed the 4k tv so you were watching 1080p regardless of the tv abilities.. has that changed?

I think directv and a few cable companies have a 4k channel. Netflix is going to push 4k soon also. So not a lot out there yet

My Vizio is 4 years old now. 58". 480HZ. Yes, 480HZ. 3D LED (also don't care about 3d). It's been incredible. I hated buying Vizio when I first bought it, but now there are 3 in my house. I thought about stepping up to a 70, but last I looked I couldn't find anyther larger than like 48" in a 480HZ anymore.

Lol! Thanks for correcting dude. I was doing all this on an iPhone and missed it

Thanks for the reply. I have seen many reviews saying the same thing about Visio. It's kind of why I started this thread. I see Bestbuy has a 70" Visio for $1300 but I'm a little weary.

I've had many Samsung and Sony TV's with no issues. I stay away from off brands and look for a tv with quality stats that will cost more but worth it in the end.

4K isn't worth a crap right now due to very little 4k content to watch. It's kind of like when HD came out, we had an HD nature station and a few others that showed some content in HD. In the next few years we will probably see mainstream cable and sat companies removing standard def programming and only supplying HD and the occasional 4k station until 4k takes off.

Additionally, if you've purchased a 4k TV in the past few years be sure it's actually HDCP 2.2 compliant. If not you may not be able to get 4k content. The first release of 4k TV's are not 2.2 compliant.

We have a 70" sharp aquos.... Have had it for almost 4 years now. We like it.

I have 2 50" Panasonic Plasmas-one is 12 years old and still going strong, the other is 8-9 and also still perfect.
I have a 7 year old 40" Visio LCD that works fine,
The 40" Toshiba buzzes annoyingly and did from day one and because I'd mounted it, I thought it might stop buzzing (silly me....but it is rarely used).

Have a 2yr old 70 inch Visio from Amazon, wife has it on constantly and no problems 36 inch Visio in bedroom about 10 yrs old no problems 42 inch Visio in my shop to keep the boat company, 6 yrs old , 3 of the 4 HDMI ports failed after a couple yrs but pic is still great

I have 7 tv's thru out the house - 5 of them are Vizios. Largest being a 65" - smallest being a 32" (in the garage).
They have been great.

We bought a 70" Sharp 240Hz 1080P LED TV at the end of 2011. I had gone to buy a high end 60" Samsung but saw what I believe was one of the earlier 70" models and brought it home instead. I looked at Best Buy and SAMs Club and Sharp was the only manufacturer offering larger than 65" at the time. It has worked perfectly for more than 3.5" years. After seeing ours the next door neighbor bought the 80" Sharp and his has worked well as well.

Our early model does not have features such as playing Amazon, Netflix and YouTube videos. I added one of Google's TV devices to remedy that.

The other TVs in our home are all Samsung LED displays but I am happy with the big Sharp in the living room. I compared image quality to the other nearby models in the store before buying and felt it was as good as its smaller neighbors.

Thanks Bruce. I'm looking at those Sharp LEDs

I've got a 60" sharp LED, 240hz tv that I bought in 2011. It has been excellent. I also have a 52" samsung LED and it is also excellent.

Vizio has come a long what from what they use to be.... we have a lg and a sony... the lg is a great tv but there was a problem with the word sync... sometimes the words are off.. there is a hidden menu where you can adjust it and after some working on it I managed to fix it. But sometimes the sound gets stuck in a loop.... u have to turn it off and backnon. It's a older lg.. prob 6 or 7 years old. The sony if by far the better tv... but if I have to do it again...... samsung. Samsung is top of the technology world right now. (Sorry apple guys)!

We've had great luck with Vizios. I wish my 55" would break but it's been 4 years and it still works perfect. I want BIGGER....We have 3 vizios all have been great.

Samsung screwed me on a DLP Projection years ago when they were 3500.00. It was repaired under warranty at least 10 times. They extended the warranty after I complained repeatedly and it got fixed under that also. Then right after it broke again and I replaced the color wheel myself (first time for that issue) and sold it for a huge loss. They kept saying they wouldn't replace it as long as the repair guy said it was repairable.....of course he's going to fix it, Samsung was putting his kids thought college. After that, Samsung is dead to me.
