Hello All! Can any of you mechanics or people experienced with replacing and rebuilding these MR1, FX140, or any jet ski type engines with pumped oil systems, tell me how to prepare to start these for the first time after rebuild but before the oil has a chance to circulate throughout the engine? What I am getting at is there will be a fair amount of stuff that doesn't have the oil lubrication for the first several seconds and I want to be sure that everything has a chance to get oil around it before startup - if that is possible.

I assume pour a little oil down the cylinders?

Any tips please let me know. I have a week or maybe less before I want to turn this thing over.
 
I wouldn't put oil down the cylinders, the rings should have been lubed during assembly. As well as all parts. Dont start up without cranking with the plugs and coils out and disconnected. This should get enough rpms to prime the oil pump and get it circulating. If it was assembled correctly the assembly lube will protect the components.
After you crank it for a bit then install plugs and coils to start up

So unplugging the coil packs is better than just pulling the safety lanyard when rolling the engine over ?

You want the plugs out so it will crank a little faster to get the pump to circulate better

Okay, I was thinking about possible damage to the coil packs.
 
I also heard that maybe it is a good idea to disconnect the fuel line while turning over with spark plugs out so that the injectors aren't loading the carbs up with fuel?

Fuel acts like a lubricant and the amount that gets sprayed while doing a test is minimal. Either way , injectors plugged in or not wont matter
