so i'm having trouble with my new black cover. i've never read of anyone having issues, so prolly user error.

dealer threw in a grey cover when i bought my boat. it's on season #6 and the fabric is showing it's age. have never towed with it on. it's strapping system appears identical the new black version.

we are about to drag boat to michigan and i saw a hella deal on a new black cover and decided to order it to use on our trip. finally opened it up for a test fit yesterday and it don't fit. the front strap appears to be about 8" short, not allowing me to connect the velcro seam.

here's the starboard side, seam velcro connected, buckle connected and ratchet fully released. notice front strap buckle is fully forward, up against the opening in the strap slot.

i can't connect the port side buckle (yes, the ratchet is fully released) or the seam velcro. the port front strap buckle is pulling so hard against the strap slot, the seam velcro is about 8" from connecting. on the gray cover i attach the velcro seams first, then connect buckles and ratchet, and the buckles sit about in the middle of the velcro wrap. it clearly fit's 'snugger' than my old gray cover, but i think i'd have to ratchet about 8" out of the strap to get it sealed up. what am i doing wrong? or has anyone heard of fitment probs with the oem covers?

Putting on our cover we go front to back obviously to begin with. There at the tower we attach horizontal velcro first and place the cleat cover over the middle cleat. I then roll the cover to the back but not around the swim deck just yet. I get off the boat and we attach the vertical Velcro pieces near the tower and buckle the buckles. I then grab the rest of the back of the cover and stretch it over the rear, be careful because it is a snug fit and it likes to eat fingers for breakfast if you don’t pull enough, lol. Also obviously make sure the ratchets are completely loose.

Is is an oem cover, if so whats the part number on the cover. Could be why it was a great deal.
Where did you get it?

thanks, this helps.
leaving the back up above the deck allows me to connect the buckle, but i can just barley pull the vertical velcro pieces together. i'll play with it some more.

It wasn't one of their "open box returns" that they sell? I see they offer those for 50 bucks off

I have the same model cover and i am on my second and never had a problem like that

i didn't see that and my order confirm doesn't say that...it appeared in 'new' condition in the box.

do you have to fight yours a bit to get the vertical velcro seams together? if you buckle one side, is the front section of the other side all bunched up? you can kind of see it in my pic abv.

using hot2go's method i can at least gets the straps buckled. but i have to start ratcheting before i pull it down around swim deck. takes like 10 cranks on the ratchet to get the velcro to almost line up. i've got it on, but the strap and plastic buckles have a ton of load on them.

i ordered a set of shipping brackets. if they show up before we leave, i'll prob just use the shipping cover for the road trip. if they don't come, may have a canvas shop cut and sew an 8" extension to the front strap.

Show the nose.

Seems like you either have a mislabeled (or wrong) cover, for a smaller boat, or it isn't sitting on the nose correctly.

There's not much to figure out about getting it to sit right, so I doubt you did it wrong. Betting it's for a 21'

Mine goes on without any force, the 2 velcro seams go together with ease. I can put the seams together, latch the 2 straps even if its over the stern.

Looks like the strap was either made too short, causing it to bunch up or its hung up inside its seam somewhere

it's the right cover...it's on...the strap is just tight af...and it is fighting the velcro.

your's works like my gray cover. ez-pz
i can't feel the strap bound up anywhere. i feel like the new cover's strap was just sewn short.

since it's on, maybe the brisk tx heat will help stretch out a bit...

Doubt it will stretch. If it were me i would just have it extended like you said 6 or 8 inches. Or a new longer strap installed on those ends

To my eye, it looks like the whole front section is slightly short. Mine has the flap that goes over the tower, and that's pretty well centered whereas yours is as far forward as it can be, with what looks to be 2-4" uncovered.

The strap could easily be twisted in the pocket, and you should be able to feel along that to see if that's the case. Still seems just a bit short, but if the strap can be fixed to reach, it seems like it'll be serviceable.

Funny. Mine did not do this at first, but now does the same thing as yours. Its very tight as well. I did add a bit of strapping on the ratchet and seemed to help some..

Problem with that is the buckle wont fit in the slot opening to allow the cover to come forward. It was designed that way so you cant lose the end of the strap inside the cover..
As far as the cover on the bow, it looks just like my ar240.

thanks for these links..
i think just having the front strap extended locally solves it....and in time for my trip north.

This is a design flaw. My OEM mooring cover does the same thing. The strap itself is long enough, but it can't slide where it needs to due to the way that the sleeve and clip are designed. I got Yamaha to replace the first one since it seemed clearly wrong, and the dealer that I purchased the cover from agreed. The second one shipped exactly the same way. Yamaha said that I was the only one who complained about it. The dealer said that they'd refund me, but like you, I made it work by extending the strap using a piece from the first cover (oddly they didn't make me ship that back.) The side vertical Velcro strips don't quite meet, and all in all it is still frustrating because since it doesn't quite match up, there is enough of a sag on the top of the cover that water pools.
