if you have ever boated in barneget bay Nj you know how shallow water can be .. its a huge bay hecta acre after hecta acre of water just look in up in WIK ... well i call it barneget channnel !! because thats all you really can drive in ! ... well thanks to garmin and its recorded depth charts i ran all around channels and saved my boat and alot of fuel ! GO GARMIN and updated maps !!! very accuate as my depth finder was reading what garmin was telling i would way in advance !

Which Garmin do you have?

gpsmap 7 series $1000 lakes + ocean maps

I would never 100% fully trust any electronics. ESPECIALLY GARMIN.
The map/depth data just isn't accurate enough !
I've personally witnessed it on several higher end Garmin units. Mine included.

Chesapeake Bay is similar - at least the northern end, very shallow for such a large body of water. I use a Raymarine a78 GPS and it helped a lot when we were there on the 4th. I noticed brown patches on the screen and thought it was sandbars, it's not. There are large sea grass beds that are shallow and should be avoided, especially in a jet boat. Ask me how I know. Thankfully the reverse maneuver works well.
