maybe a long shot posting this on a boat forum but I know there is a lot of knowledge here (and people with golf carts).

I am trying to install a digital state of charge meter and it needs to be wired to the key switch. I positive and negative wires are straightforward but I am unsure how/ which wire needs to be wired to this meter from the key switch. There are 4 wires (green, white, red, yellow posted below in pic going to key switch)..

I have a 2012 EZ-Go RXV.

Anyone have experience with this? Thanks. IMG_0945.JPGIMG_0946.JPG IMG_0943.JPG

If you haven't touched the RXV wiring yet I will say be very careful or you will end up buying a new controller ($$$$$). They are not like other carts and have a 48 volt AC motor and controller so if you touch the wrong wire with a meter it can send back too much voltage and the control ler is toast. Best bet is to buy a meter made for the RXV and will be a straight plug in. I had a 2013 RXV and traded it for a 2016 2Five (street legal RXV). The RXV wiring/controller is very unforgiving!! Just my $.02

I got this feedback from multiple people. Thanks!

I decided to send this meter back. I will get one made specifically for this cart later.

It is relatively simple and should not depend on the type of cart controller to wire up a simple battery meter. The + and - go across the 48V battery + and -, (use an inline fuse at the battery connection in the + wire) and the C is powered by the key switch to turn on the meter. Find the wire from your key switch that provides +48V when it is turned on, and connect it to the C terminal. Otherwise the meter would discharge the battery over time while sitting. Hope this helps. Cam.

Hey @jlcj7

I have a one on my RXV that looks like this. Plug and play.

where does it plug into? Does the wiring harness from to the key switch plug into this?

Also, i know nothing is as accurate as a voltmeter, but are you happy overall with the accuracy?

I almost ran out of battery driving the kids around looking at Christmas lights in the neighborhood... oops

Yea it works great. Over here in Riverpointe I don't get anywhere close to depleting the batteries. The cart should be prewired for the meter and it will plug right into the wiring harness behind the dash.

@jlcj7 do yourself a favor and get an led digital battery meter like the one pictured below. It is way better than the ones pictured above. It will give you the exact voltage of your battery pack at all times. Print off a 48 volt SOC table and keep in your cart. Never it go below 50% according to the chart. I purchased mine from the link below. Don't even worry about wiring it to the RXV key switch. I wired the meter directly to my battery pack so it is always on. It draws almost no power so it's not like it is going to drain your batteries or anything. My cart stays plugged up to the charger 24/7 anyways so I know it's always charged. Batteries cost way too much to not take care of properly. I'm really anal about mine, and trying to make them last years.
