Well, as I promised Mel (@txav8r ) in another thread, I stopped on the way home from Mom's yesterday and took some pics of the ice on Keweenaw Bay.

To put this in perspective, here's where I'm standing when taking those pics:

It was pretty amazing. I don't think I've ever seen ice-cubes bobbing around out there on Memorial Day before.

For those interested in the mundane details of my weekend, we drove up late in the day on Friday after the kids got out of school. Saturday was spent getting the water turned on at the cottage (it's a well pump) - I'm happy to report there were no leaks - and taking care of various fix-it chores around Mom's house. (A little electrical work, a little screen-door repair, a little computer repair, ... the list went on for most of the day - as expected.)

On Sunday we went to Church in Calumet, then out to the cemetery to visit the graves. After that we went to the Calumet Waterworks Park and walked along the beach for a bit (this involved long pants and sweatshirts - but no ice on THAT part of the lake).

Later in the day we tromped up to the Hungarian Waterfalls - which is my old stomping ground from the time I was 10 years old or so. The only one that wanted to come with us was the Eldest Daughter so it was actually a peaceful trip.

I grabbed a couple shots of the falls:

This is a shot along the river before the "main" falls.

Same shot as above with a faster shutter:

Yesterday was drive-home day.

The amazing thing was that even Up North there were protesters. They were to lazy to actually come out, but they left their signs around in various spots:

I don't mean to get political, but come on. How can we improve the roads if we End Road Work? Sheesh.
:)

Now that is funny! It took me a minute, but it is funny!

Ice? OMG!! Dude!!! You need to move South.
