Invasive species reported at lake Lanier

How wide spread are zebra mussels in GA at this point?
The short answer this is the first article I have seen regarding aquatic invasive species in GA. At this point, I don’t see it as a problem yet. However, I have yet to witness any quarantine of any boats at lake Lanier. Through the Army Corps of Engineers, permits are required for bass fishing competitions. These competitions do bring competitors from outside the state in addition to the recreational summer residents. That said, in addition to reading posts from this forum regarding other localities that quarantine boaters on a regular basis due to invasive species, I am not sure what is to come in the near future. Last season, I did come across mussel shells at the lake but did not realize it’s significance.
