We typically spend the majority of our boating time not fishing however, I do try and get out every once in a while. Often times I'll fish in the AM before the family gets up on camping trips and last year I did go after salmon in a local lake. To better my chances I have put together a down rigger for the back of the boat and am now looking at options for a fish finder. Not sure I want to do a permanent install and so I have been looking at other options.

Does anyone have experience with this product?

Yup. Works great. In fact, I have one in a box right behind me in my office :-). Works fine in a shoot-through hull mounted in the bilge as well (as opposed to having to drill through your fiberglass).
