So... I have sucked up my share of ropes, but never had this happen and I can't find any reference on the forum that it has to anyone else. Wife was in the water and I was backing down from the beach. All at the same time the stbd engine died, the stbd throttle slammed forward and she yelled ROPE! I had a stern line coiled up on the swim platform and without checking I didn't realize someone had pulled it off to hang on to.

No big deal, I went to the clean out and since she was already in the water so I sent her to the intake grate. I loosened the rope and told her to start pulling it out "it's not in the intake" Well there is rope all over the impeller, and it's still attached to the cleat so... that's when it hit me that the throttle had slammed forward. "Check the nozzle", sure enough it went in through the output nozzle. How the...

Am I the first to get it backwards like that? 🤪

Need a picture of that cant even understand how it could make its way into the out put unless someone fed it in while the motor was off.

You are NOT allowed on my boat until the black clouds pass over you! 😂
I know, I am a firm beliver in the "chain of events" that leads to mishaps... and after the second "event" in one day, I go home... and fortunately that was the only one. ;)

I would have considered sabotage but I was running at idle for at least two minutes or more waiting for my son to get the anchor off the beach and stored in the locker. It wasn't until I started backing off that it went in. Before that the pumps were fully submerged and my dock lines float. Kind of defies everething I know about suck and blow motors...

Now the big question: does he gets the points for 'sucking' up a rope if he did it backwards? Is that really sucking? I mean, I know it sucks, but...

agree

OMG, that s#+t is hilarious. I never thought that I would be the brunt of a suck and blow debate on JB.net :p.

On that note, I just want to take a second to thank all of you, especially the founders, admins, and long time friends that have supported both the community and me! I know that I have been hot and cold over the years here due to "life stuff", but one thing is for sure... this is one place that feels like home to me. I always feel welcome, even after a long period of inactivity, and if I have been non responsive to any posts I apologize.

Some of us know how this all started at the "other place", and I so appreciate that the core members made the move to create what is the greatest place on the web for those that choose to do it propless.

Look forward to the "How to overhaul the most neglected 2008 AR230" thread. Kind of a how to be a bad boat dad... yup, I'll own it. ;)

I can prove two points...

1. Anyone can fix anything
2. Given the proper support of a community, see #1

Cheers!

I don't even like reading this. It's been 12 years since I sucked up a rope. Now I have worry about some other type of phenomenon.

Holy smokes! This is something I've never even considered could happen!

So wait, if I'm reading this right, the rope didn't go through the pump, but slipped somehow between the jet direction nozzle and main pump housing, and then back out?

It's pretty incredible that the motor died in the milliseconds before the throttle slammed forward, that could've been bad really quick.

You should've loaded up and went straight to buy a lottery ticket...
