Steering Cable Replacement 25' Boats

Haven’t seen a video around, but can share my experience from when I tackled it on my 2012 as I believe the transom is similar…

Pulling the pump was optional, I believe I did the work without it.

Disconnected the steering linkage.
Had to remove some silicone sealant to expose the nut on the cable. Used an oxygen sensor socket to remove the outside nut on the steering cable. (There was nothing on the interior of the hull to remove) Trick was keeping the nut loose on the cable such that you could slide a piece of conduit over the cable, resting on the nut such that one can motivate with blunt force blows. That was the hardest part of the job, and I actually needed to use some debond in my case.

The rest was following the cable thru the hull.

Hopefully the process is similar for you.

Oh, almost forgot to mention take measurements of the distance from the transom to the steering linkage to ensure you have the same length (angle) post the replacement.

You will most likely have the 1 piece rack and pinion style cable assembly. It requires you to tie rope to the ends and pull through to the helm and then tie the rope to the new cables and pull through bact to the transom. You will need to remove the cover off the fuel tank because there is a zip tie or two that keeps it in place. Its not really difficult. After you attach the cables to the pumps and get it adjusted and set to the proper measurements (which will be in the service manual) you center the wheel then attach the rack to the column

The tool @VitaminSea suggested will be very handy. I have a few of those
