I've acquired my first boat. A Simms super v with a Yamaha 6h5 on it.

I've discovered that it used to have a power trim and tilt and its been removed for a normal piston. As I'm new with it all I'm not sure how its supposed to sit in the water. Do i need to lift the motor manually and lock it with the tilt lock lever or is it designed to rest against the trim rod when its running? There is 5 or 6 holes on the bracket that the trim rod can be moved to but i was under the impression this was to set the minimum. I'm not sure if the motor is designed to rest on this rod or if i'd supposed to lock it at a higher position by manually lifting and locking it?

If i was to manually lift and lock it it would be relying solely on the lock on the hydrolics which doesn't seem right.
I'm honestly just not certain and any advice would be great. (The tilt lock has been removed on the image)

Thanks in advance,
Kane.
