Earlier this year I had to place a nickel above one of the switches in my cleanout port hatch after an engine shutdown crossing a wake. I noticed that the cover had depressions from years of engaging the switches so I decided to make a plate to cover the area. I used E6000 to glue it to the underside of the hatch cover where it activates the switches. Silicone caulk would be sufficient. It is 4mm (1/6th inch) thick and large enough to ensure contact with both switches. You may need to adjust the switch height after installing. It worked perfectly without adjustment for me.
