Bolt on bow support?

WTF?

Ok, I've seen mention of welded bowstops on here, and had that on my list of to-do's. But, I thought that was just extra support. This guy is just bolted on? Actually, just slides on and uses one bolt to stabilize it? Am I seeing this right? Installed a new winch this evening, and the dam thing was rocking all over the place. I torqued the bolt down, but it just really surprised me...

I put a cross bolt through just above. The internal post is about to eight inches or so above the existing bolt.

So, I'm assuming now, when people talk of welding their bowstop, it's not just adding an extra support, but welding this puppy down solid as well? At least that is my plan now. Got a buddy who's a superstud welder, so I'll be enlisting his expertise for this.

Exactamungo!! Mine is the same way but never bothers me or appears to be loose because the boat is always pressed up against it tight.

Had my winch not broken last weekend, I honestly probably would've never known either! Now my OCD is kicking in and I'm gonna go full retard on it.

The bolting method works but it is worth welding it. Make sure the roller is lined up to the boat before you final weld it. Mine was off a bit and I didn't think/notice. I used square tubing but it is a lot easier welding a thick flatbar as the support. While your are fabbing a welding a step welded to the post is very very handy. Lots of examples on here. Cam.

I can't weld at all, I've tried several times, my neighbor/friend that can weld and has the skill and gear (e.g. Wire fed mig and tig welders) moved away so I went the bolt route and couldn't be happier with it, so far anyway. I like to powerload plus doing a quick stop to get the boat to snug up to the bow stop is ghetto in my opinion so a firm bow stop is a must. Anything is better than the stock configuration you posted a pic of.

I bolted mine also. A cheap/easy solution to a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place.
