While ordering everything for my trolling motor/ lithium battery install. I’m thinking while I’m in the shop and running wires. Why not install outlets under the side gunnels for electric reels. Has anyone else done this? Could I power them off of the 36amp lithium trolling battery? Or would I need an independent 12v battery?

And FYI this is on the 255 FSH sport E.

Your 3 12V series to 36v should not be tapped. If you use one of the 3 battery it will become unbalanced in voltage and could ruin all 3 batteries. You can use house battery or even add an extra one and parallel it to house battery for extra juice.

I am installing a single 36amp lithium for the trolling motor. Looks like all the reels are 12v. So that kind of knocks the trolling battery out of the planning. Looks like your recommendation of house battery is going to be the way to go.

@Loveair, do you have any thoughts on what kind of outlet you would install?

I have not gotten around to it but was thinking of building some outlet and plug sets based on the XT30 connector that would need approximately a 1/2" hole drilled plus a few more for small screws.

I haven’t just starting thinking about it yesterday. still doing reaserch. And talking to people with knowledge.

Depending on the species you are targeting, you’d better look at the strength of the OEM rod holders and how they are mounted. While im sure the rod holders themselves are strong enough, the rod holders are only held in with three wood screws on my 210 FSH. @Liveto99 was using a large reel set up and had a good sized shark on I believe, and the mounting screws gave way as he was reeling with the rod in the rod holder.

As far as the battery goes, you’d either have to use the house battery, perhaps two lead acid types in parallel or just one 100Ah LiFePO4, or a dedicated battery for the reels. You could always put two 100Ah LiFePO4 in parallel for your house batteries and have plenty of power to run all your accessories all day and never give it a second thought.

Great info. Hadn’t considered the rod holder. I’m not going to be targeting anything huge. But a 5lb snapper can easily turn into a 200lb shark on the way up.
