**WARNING** CC Fraud after payment through this forum

Warning to all of those that have recently purchased through this forum:

My last two purchases on my Capital One card were to @Bruce for the GPS puck cover and the steering bushing. I did the transaction through this forum as requested - this morning I had four alerts form CO stating transactions made today from Yamaha, Partzilla, Appliance Parts, and GrillParts.com, totalling more than $700.

My transaction with Bruce on the GPS puck cover and the steering bushing went flawless and I am not blaming him, but payment through the forum must be compromised. How do I know this? I use this CC as my burner for sketchy transactions for exactly this reason - and it was the only payments made on this card in 2025.

@Admin / Bruce - probably time to figure out a different way to take payments for the 3d printed parts. (Btw, the bushing works amazing!)

They probably have lax security. To be clear though, my card was only used on these forums, and not on the Grillparts website.

@anmut, that is 100% a PayPal transaction. The forum software never has access to any of your payment or even contact information.

It seems unlikely but not impossible that PayPal would be compromised. Most likely your card was compromised elsewhere.

Again, this was the only place that card was used in 6 months. Then suddenly I'm getting fraud charges from Yamaha? Doesn't pass the sniff test.

Yes, it uses PayPal, but I entered my transactional data through the forum. Most likely the forum software has a sniffer installed to capture pass through data.

You can not enter any payment informaiton through our forum. All payment information is entered after redirecting to PayPal. I and other members who use the forum payment system receive a payment confirmation email with the item orderd and the shipping address. We do not receive your payment information.

Sorry that your card was compromised, I know that is a frustrating experiece. Our forum was not in any way involved in that compromise and has never had your or anyones card information.

This is the process;

2. You click on Purchase



3. You are redirected to PayPal




4. You make your payment through PayPal

That's almost like saying "well, there's no way there could be someone literally capturing card information at a gas pump card reader, because that would take someone building a special piece of hardware..."

Thankfully Capital One is easy enough to deal with, so it's really no skin off my back - I just hope it doesn't happen to someone paying with a debt card where they lose real money...

Your post is making a false and impossible allegation. Our forum software never had any of your payment information. That is strictly passed from your browser to PayPal.

At gas pumps people install skimming devices onto the pump's payment hardware. That can not happen here as our forum does not have any payment mechanism.

You might want to raise the issue with PayPal but the far more likely scenario is that your card was compromised in the past then recently used.

It is impossible for our forum software to have had any involvment with the compromising of your credit card information. Our forum software does not ask for and has not received your credit card information. Our forum software sends your browser to PayPal where the information is entered and the payment is processed. Your argument is as silly as suggesting that the concrete slab under the gas pump stole your information.

As the forum and I have never had your credit card information it is impossible that the forum or I would have been involved in the compromise of that information.

The more likely scenario is that the machine you used for payment has a sniffer.

I have had a credit card scanned through my wallet in the past. A theif has a device that can somehow see or read your card. After that i purchased a wallet that is made to prevent this. So there are many possibilities to how your card got compromised

Happened after being at a crowded outdoor venue. Next day it was used. It was the card closest to the outside of the wallet. My bank said it was most likely the way it was compromised. Either way, they said it can happen that way so to buy a unscannable wallet.

From my research (and feel free to research on your own), the ability and effort required for someone to scan the rfid from your card and then successfully complete a transaction is almost zero. The people selling rfid blocking wallets would probably disagree.

As per advise from my trusted banker, i bought one and rather be safe than sorry. They are not selling wallets
