Yamaha 255 FSH sport H in the Florida Keys Gulf & Atlantic

So I am looking to purchase a new 2024 FSH H boat I will be using this in the Florida keys taking family to sand bars reef fishing just cruising around the keys, I would also like to be able to make the Bimini trip. I have been looking for about a year now and plan on buying this summer I do not see any negatives in this Yamaha and when compared to the traditional dual outboard motor boats they are twice the money and does not seem to have all the options the Yamahas do, Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this

Thank you
I have 24 255 FSH e . I have used in rivers creeks canals bays and the gulf. So far no issues.
I have added sea keeper Ride. Makes huge difference in the ocean .
Don't know how far your Bimini trip is ,I average 1.9 mpg @ 30 mph. so about 200 mile range

Add on s for fun and family.
Portopotti with pump out.
Battery charger
Sea keeper ride
I've even seen a Basket ball net that fits in transoms table holder

I have a 255 sport H also and have been considering the Cobrajet components. I do have a little concern with the extra forces being applied to the jet nozzles and the thickness of the metal. I guess I should be asking Jeff this question, but would like to know if anyone else has this concern.

I have E . added jetboat pilot vectors. Makes a difference in low speed maneuver and reverse.
I Cant get tech with pressure etc.
Almost 100 hrs . jets seem fine . no performance loss. Last haul out everything checked OK.

I am concerned with hitting something with the fin and damaging the nozzle or breaking the fin.
If the fin is in the water at speed, while turning it will put a large load on the nozzle and steering cables. I'm more concerned when making left turns because the cables push the nozzle to turn left and pull to turn right.

The vectors are above the bottom . turn with the jets. Don't know about cobra. Go to jet boat pilot on you tube . better if you see than me trying to describe.

PS
The vectors rise up and out of the way when on plane.

Do yo

u have them for the 2021? And what’s the difference with 1 rod attaching to keel vs 2?
I have several model specific steering models for the Yamaha jet boats your boat would use the super ultimate or the super magnum setup it has a rudder in the middle my steering systems are made to address way more than just slow speed handling.
They are also made of tempered aluminum.
They provide steering influence at all speeds in all conditions and even when rapidly decelerating in a turn you will maintain control. The fins do not hang below the rudder so they do not increase the draft of the boat. The system also gets rid of the bow wander at speed keeping the boat from constantly drifting side to side on plane.
The second tie rod balances out the system and they hold the nozzles in proper alignment rather than relying on the steering cables to do that. The tie rods also provide redundancy to the system , so if one cable on either side ever fails the other one picks up the entire job so you do not loose any steering effect.
Stock if the left cable fails your boat looses the steering from the rudder and the right nozzle leaving you with just one nozzle for steering.
The deluxe system also has a plaining surface to get the hull on plane quicker plus it fights bow hop in chop.
I also have buy direct discount prices and free domestic shipping .

and a super ultimate ak-19 deluxe on another customers boat

Also on the deluxe versions if you look at the position of the plaining surface just below the jet nozzle opening, you can see that on plane this is actually above the water so on drag from it and to add to the features and benefits that plaining surface also helps to greatly reduce the water that shoots up off the ride plates under the pump from engaging the jet water that is exiting the nozzle and that helps to reduce the spray behind the boat . Most people go with the magnums however I suggest the ultimate set if you use a forklift to dry dock the boat just to be safe. Next look at the bottom of the cobra fins in relation to the bottom of the factory rudder so they do not increase the draft of the boat and the tie rods working together reduce the work load from just 1 nozzle.
Now imagine the force transferred by the original tie rod to the right side nozzle when a rudder breaks off the back of the boat but the nozzle is seldom if ever danaged.

Remember I blazed this trail back in 2001 and have been designing systems ever since also remember these boats have a lot more issues than just slow speed handling and the hull moves down low in the water when going slow and up on top of the water when on plane so my systems change their influence based on the position of the hull in the water. So maintain control at all speeds and get variable influence due to the fins and hull sitting in different positions depending on the speed of the boat. If you want to experience some interesting things get on plane and make a rapid turn while making the turn rapidly decelerate and see how quickly you loose control if you were retrieving someone in the water during water sport activities it could get them run over. Note the bow wander on plane it is very annoying, I address the short comings of the stock setups and I make model specific systems for the various models. I make the boat handle way better at all speeds and make the boat much more pleasurable and predictable . So I always say do your research before adding any aftermarket steering system to your boat because they are definitely not the same. Here is a comparison video note the young girl in it she drives that boat now .
here is a video of a 19 foot boat doing his first trial of one of my systems and note how he puts waves behind his trailer before driving up to load the boat just to ,make it interesting. and you can even steer without thrust
so do your research .

Also having steering attached to the nozzles does not cause the nozzles harm , look at the rudder that is attached to the right hand nozzle via a tie rod alone it still does not harm the nozzle and that huge thing is in the water at all speeds. But the real force on it is the huge force produced by the jet pump itself when you turn the nozzle it wants to make the nozzle stay straight So as for the new sets I make for the H series the stainless steel fins are attached to a base plate and where they attach it is a very carefully made with a much smaller contact area so if the fin hit a solid object in the water the fin would bend where it is welded to the base and being stainless it can be straightened out easily but it would not harm the nozzle even though the nozzles are not expensive, .

Thank you, who else puts this much into r&d into these boat’s maneuverability? Not yamaha

Well it's my passion ,I did it in 2001 for myself and my family because I have always been a boat person had my first motor boat at 14 years old and I rode my bike to the marina to get the boat and go to the beach where all my friends would gather and water ski , They would donate money for gas usually 50cents as that would buy 2 gallons . And later on I volunteered to work in a marine repair shop to learn about engines , Back then they were mostly 2 stroke.
I built many boats and my favorite was the 19 foot I. O. that I totally gutted changed the hull and converted it to a 140 HP Johnson sea drive. One day in 2001 at 49 years old I made a big mistake and purchased a jet boat ,never test drove it had no idea what I was getting until I put it in the water for the first time and said HELL NO! I parked it refused to use it and then I decided to build a steering system for it because that is how I do things when I am challenged with a issue.
I took that boat to the water and said OH MY GOD!! this is the most nimble and most fun boat I ever owned, just that first modification and it was a huge improvement at all speeds, for all my uses from fishing to water sports and guest opoerators loved to drive it as well. 1770728907013.jpeg

This is the actual boat and the steering system I desighned and built from scratch , it is painted gold and look at how small the fins were. I used that boat for years people asked me to do something for the Yamaha jet boats , I knew nothing about them , a local person brought his Yamaha jet boat to my house and said in desperation please make this boat steer better ,I hate it and I plan on selling it if you can't make it steer any better. I know I will loose a lot of money if I sell it but I hate it! He said he was going to leave the boat in my yard and for me to call him when I have something for him to try . Funny that was exactly how I ended up inventing the EZ locks for the push button clean out plugs as well , someone dropped ione off at myt house and begged me to solv that problem also.
This was A challenge so I desighned my first Yamaha system ,installed it on the nozzles , called him come over and we took it to Lake Seminole to try it.
The minute he backed it off the trailer he started smiling and then he started playing around with the people on jet skies near us ,showing off his new toy!!! Then he told poeople on forums and I was overwhelmed with orders. This is a set of the original steering fins for the yamaha jet boats

The next thing I knew I am being overwhelmed with requests from people who owned Yamaha jet boats begging me to make some for them. No I built all these by hand myself and I had to get my 2 boys to come over and help.
So that was how it all started. And as time went on and peoples needs changed as well as the boats designs changed so did my steering systems in order to fill in the voids and bring the Yamaha jet boats handling to a whole new level and it kept me busy for the last 25 years.
So it is my passion and with about 1/3rd of my entire life dedicated to it I am proud of what I accomplished.
Also one day in the beginning of all this inventing stuff , my son came to me and asked if I could possibly build a steering system for his friends P W C,,
I was a fisherman and not really fond of those at the time but I had him drop it off at my shop and I built a system for it.
They took it out in the middle of the day and they finally returned home after dark while I was sitting there worring if something happened.
To my relief they were excited yelling and jumping up and down about the huge difference in handling it made and how I must try it out because it is totally amazing and there was no way to explain it in words.
There was the start of the P W C steering and here is a video I just did a few weeks ago at 73 years old in very shallow water to add to the drama.

Sounds like you’ve had a very fulfilling and passionate life, sir! Hope 🙏

I’m amazed at how much more stable the jets become with the 2nd tie rod. Looking forward to get it out on the water. Will post update springtime!

Thanks again for the great product, service and access to easy installation.

Other than Yamaha’s helm master EX system with the joy stick or the DriVe X system with similar features?

So this thread began with the OP on April 6th 2025 and hasn’t been seen since, and wanting to know how the 255 H would work in the keys, the gulf and the Atlantic, said he was going to buy last summer but not a peep since the day he joined and . @TeeNGee gave comprehensive to the say least information about these awesome boats.

another member traded his 2024 255 H for a 30’ CC with twin outboards and a joy stick.

So now that you have a few months and a season under your belt, what are your thoughts on how the boat is performing for you?

Do you have a specific question about the 255H? I have not been to the waters referenced above, but have been to a variety of waters.
