1.8 Engine anode replacement.

I bought some new anodes for my 242 Limited S 1.8L but cant find the anodes. All of the videos I see are of different motors and the anodes are in a different location. Does anyone have a picture or could tell me where they are located on the 1.8 motors?

Will at Jetboat pilot did a video on YouTube as well as Captain Leon. Both excellent videos. My guess is saltwater boats may see these go away quicker than freshwater. It's a process to swap, but worth it if you have been in salt. or high hours.

Yes I’ve watched it, unfortunately my anode is not in the same location as the one in his video. It just looks like the removal of one bolt and rebolting it.. shouldn’t be too hard right? I installed cobra steering and mega fangs so it can’t be any more difficult than that I hope lol

You are confusing these anodes. You said Engine Anode on the motors. The engine anode on all 1.8ltr engines is in the same place as what Will shows.

But you now are talking about cobra steering, and that is the pump. The pump anode is totally different than the engine anode. Those are visible and out in the open. The biggest issue with pump anodes is siezed bolts. Just be ready to replace any bolt you break off, as the likelihood is very high.

From my 2016 waverunner with a 1.8L. Red dowel is pointing to the anode.



Tried replacing mine, it’s stubborn (I suspect it’s due to the swollen gasket, as I can get it to rotate some). Even had a mechanic look at it, and in my case it would require significant effort having to remove the manifold. Not worth it as I am not having any issues.

Stops internal corrosion of your motor I believe. Especially if the boat has been run in salt water and not flushed properly. Well that’s what I read anyways I’m going to try and tackle this tomorrow.

You are mostly correct. Anodes don't stop corrosion but help prevent it by attracting it to the anode instead of your engine. It is important to replace corroded anodes in order for them to work properly. If they aren't maintained then your engine is susceptible to corrosion.
