Hey! New to this forum, my name is Nick. I just recently acquired a 2004 sugar sand mirage powered by a mercury sport jet 210. Boat is super clean and in my eyes worth saving. Im looking to swap it over the winter to get it back on the water come summer time. The engine currently in it has a hole in the block from a rod.

Any recommendations on a budget friendly swap?

Will a mercury 175 powerhead 00-05 drop in?

Will a mercury 240 powerhead 00-05 drop in?

Open to all ideas.

Let me know if this isnt allowed, look forward to speaking with you all.

You might want to check out some Mercury SportJet specific forums. When I owned a 240EFI, I researched what powerheads may be used just in case mine grenaded. (I sold it prior)

But the biggest issue with the powerheads, as they are plumbed very similar and bolts line up to the jet pump. The issue was the drive shaft diameter and spline count. Nobody seemed to be able to confirm or deny what the options were. it was just so costly that nobody wanted to attempt it on a hunch.

Best of luck, but this is what killed most surviving Sugar Sand and SeaDoo boats with the Mercury SportJet.

Thank you for the info. I’ll keep this is mind. Hoping I can make something happen. So far I have nothing into the boat so if I have to abandon the project it won’t be that big of a deal

NickGrech, all the sportjet 2.5 blocks except the 250HP use the same crankshaft and will mate up. where the difference in splines comes into play is if you try to use a outboard powerhead. The 175 uses a different exhaust setup but should still bolt in as it was the standard engine though it would be my choice of last resort. Think it also used a different impeller. 210 hp was just the carb version of the early 240. The later version 240's most obvious difference is a belt driven alternator. Finally there is the 200 direct injection model which was the last sportjet Merc built, up to 2012 I think. All should work. My first choice would be a late 240. Probably biased cause I've been running one since 2003 when I bought the boat new, did replace long block in 2017 but it was mostly my own dumbass fault.
