Has anyone tried modifying the front passenger seat to a captains chair like the 212ss?

I have the same model and would also be interested... Great question.

I will be going to the Yamaha dealer today. I will ask them what it would take.

The funny thing about this is I already asked what it would take to switch a 212 SS to the 212X seating, which only requires the 212X filler cushion.

My sales guy told me it can be done. Just have to buy all mounting hardware, and the seat. He didn't have a current price estimate.

I can't try it. I don't have a Yamaha at the moment. I personally prefer the bench seat so if I had a 212SS I would remove the bucket seat and install the filler cushion that the 212X has.

ha....I asked my wife, since she sits there most of the time which she liked best the bench seat or captains chair such as the SX230 we had....she said she liked the current bench so I guess that saves me $500+ lol.....next mod!!!

I'm picking up a 242 LS and want to do the same thing.

That's what I thought also, but all 3 of the ones I looked at in my hunt only had one.

@veedubtek wait, you are looking at pre 2015 models aren't you? If so then yeah my bad. They had that bench fold down thing.

Yessir. 2011.

I got a 2012 212X captain's chair if someone wants to make me an offer.

Umm, a 242 LS already has a captains seat on both sides..

Prior to 2015 the 242 ls and ar 240s had a single captains chair and a convertible lounger. The 242 (w/o tower) and at least one of the sx 240s (I think the black one) had two captains chairs. I remember this clearly because I wanted a 242 ls with two captains chairs and I wanted it in black. Of course I later found that yamaha didn't make such a boat, at least not before 2012, prior to that the 242 without a tower only came in yacht blue.

I was just at a boat show this weekend to purchase a 212ss, wife thought the passenger captain seat was to high and preferred the J-seat of the 212x. Actually asked what it would take to do which requires more then just removing the captain chair. You do need to add the extra cushion at the top and also need to add the plastic shelf at the bottom for the cushion to rest on. After several rounds of negotiations I ended up getting the 212x anyway based on the great OTD price. Hope that info helps though if your looking to DIY.
