2020 Yamaha Vx overheating

Hi,

I have a 2020 Yamaha Vx and I believe that it might be overheating It usually revs up to 7800 but after a couple hours of hard use it limits it to 7k. I believe it’s an overheating issue since I let it idle for 5 mins and then it has no problem. I believe that the previous owner beached it so possibly stuff got into the cooling system. Is there a filter that can be cleaned to fix it or what should I do?

There is sort of a filter on the side of the pump where the water is fed to the engine , square part with 4 bolts on the left side of the pump just behind the anode block

Thank you for the reply. I definitely think it’s a blockage on the pump since I see good water flow on the back and on the front left side when I connect a garden hose to flush.

Also is that a YouTube video in the picture you sent? If so I’d appreciate if you could send me a link as I’m not totally sure how to do this. Thanks again!

Is that basically all I would need to do to fix it? I’ve seen videos where people completely disassemble the engine and clean the cooling parts of it but since mine runs for the most part fine and has good flow on the hose is this most likely my issue?

Are you getting a good stream of water out the side of the ski . There is a water "pisser" out the side just under the rub rail. Should be on the left side usually about where your left foot is. But on the outside of the ski?
If it is spraying out strong with rpms then your pump isn't restricted.
If it if overheating you should get an alarm.
But if it is in fact an overheat condition then its restricted somewhere else possibility in the engine cooling passages

Yes on the front left side it flows well. I attached pictures of it (won’t let me send the vid). More does come out when it’s in water and not just on the hose.

It flows fine I do think it might be the filter causing the issue with a small block. Runs fine for couple hours and then seems to be in some sort of limp mode to 7k. After idle for 5 mins returns back to normal.

How much oil is in the motor? They're sensitive to overfilling anything past spec. Warm it up, check the dipstick. If it was overfilled it will certainly cause loss of RPM as the oil starts to work against the engine. If it was overfilled, check your air filter to ensure it's not oil soaked.

Yes it was previously overfilled. Used to limit rpm’s to 7200 and I took a bit out and now around a little more than 1/2 way between low and full. I measured after running for 2 mins on hose. The air filter looks fine, doesn’t have any weird smells. It’s not brand new but doesn’t look too dirty to cause any issues.

That level sounds about right. My 1.8's with exactly 3.5 quarts added come in just an 1/8th to 1/4 of the hash marks in the "ok range" on the dip stick.

If he "bleached it". That probably meant the cooling system. I would recommend salt away product with a full strength flush a couple times.
Take the thermostat apart and get down to the little brass part and put in a pot of water. Keep a thermometer in water and turn up heat. Watch when it opens and then turn off heat and watch for it to close snd at what temp.

There is no pump filter, its a plate with mutiple holes.
My question about water out the indicator is in reference to when in the water not on the hose. If it flows good when in the water its not your pump or probably not an overheat condition

I see what you mean now. Yes it does flow well. It might not be an overheat problem. What would cause the rpms to limit to 7k though. Could it be something normal if im going hard on it and jumping waves the oil gets on the top of the engine?
