222SE BCU Error Message

Hello all. I recently purchased a 2025 222se. I am not new to boating but new to jet boat ownership. Yesterday afternoon I somehow managed to get the boat stuck on a submerged rock ledge in a new lake. Got the boat pulled off by a passing boater but when I went to try to start the engines after being freed the engines started but neither would shift into any gear. Reverse was displayed on the screen for both and I got a BCU error. I was stranded and ended up having to get towed in. A super shitty and embarrassing situation for me. Boat is at the marina and my research on here it seems like the buckets are jammed somehow with debris most likely. I didn’t impact the rear of the boat at all. Any advice on how to handle this situation in the moment? Any way to free the buckets by jumping into the water? Any way to reset the BCU? Frustrated with myself and the fact that my new boat is back in the shop after a month. And obviously sucked to be stranded for hours waiting for a tow.

I would agree, check your reverse buckets. Disconnect the battery for a minute or two, reconnect and see if that cleared the code.

Any damage to the boat from the rock ledge? And agreed to above that you need to check the buckets. If disconnecting the battery doesn’t clear the code I know when I had an overheat/see-dealer code I would turn the battery switches on then key on, let check light sound, turn off, turn battery switches off, and then repeat all that 3-10 times and it’ll clear the code. Took mine 5 times to clear it, dealer said it can take anywhere between 3-10 times to clear codes doing that process.

So is your boat in the shop or at your marina or house? Wouldn’t you have wanted to pull the boat and inspect for damage after grounding it? Sounds like you may have sucked up rock debris, did you hear any grinding noises? Better check the impellers and wear rings for damage.

The gates get jammed with sand/rocks thrown through the jets, especially in reverse. You likely went through a lot of forward/back trying to get off. The electronics recognizes the problem and shuts off the controls. I've had this problem so many times I will never power backwards off a beach. Jiggle the gates until they are free. Working gates will have a little play in them. It may take some effort. You will feel the sand/rocks come loose and the gates will have some play in them again and then with a couple cycles of operation they will function fine. I've been able to do it upside down from the swim deck but usually they jam hard enough I end up in the water.

I've gotten the same error, and other versions of nasty popups like that when this happens.
