255 FSH throttle not engaging gears/stuck in reverse

Hey yall,
Starboard engine is stuck in reverse with bucket down, binnacle doesn’t engage to new gear and Connext is throwing error code “Stop steering, consult Yamaha dealer”.

Bucket is stuck in reverse and won’t budge. Throttle moves freely, as it should with DES, so it’s gotta be a signal issues with the shift actuator right??

Any ideas here fellas?

I’ve tried the system reset to clear the locked up gear, no success.

No blown fuses from what I can see but I have had a chance to pull the BCU fuse yet.

Linkage to bucket is in tact and there is no debris.

Seems like the digital throttle isn’t sending the actuator a signal to switch gears.

I don't have the FSH, but my 242 has a "motor assembly box" in the storage box directly in front of the captains area (under the dash). You can pull the lever and free your cables running to the buckets in the back. You can then move the buckets by hand, as long as it's not jammed with anything.

My cables have gotten stiff before (sitting for periods after salt water use) and I'll do this to lubricate the cables and move them back and forth. I also got an error similar to yours when one of mine were stuck.

Bang the crap out of the bucket with a rubber mallet. If you dont have one get one. Small unseen debris can cause this exact error. And is usually the cause 95% of the time.
After cycle the batteries off then on and try again

As you enter your changing room on your FSH 255 Sport E, there is a white circular hatch on the left side of the "bench" under the dash. I'd guess many boat owners don't even know it's there with the stuff they store in that space. My Engines off power on. Open that hatch and you'll find your levers to release your bucket if they are stuck in reverse. Once I put the lever in manual, I had to manually lift my starboard bucket to the open position, then headed back into the changing room and slid the lever back into electronic mode. The lever doesn't slide easily. I then shut the power off and turned it back on and everything works again. Upon shutting off I received an error to Stop Steering see the dealer. Hopefully that will clear eventually.
