255XD and tubing

Hey Y'all,

Was wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.

Have a 24 255XD and this is the beginning of our 2nd season with it. Even though I know its more of a surf/wake boat my teenagers and their friends still love to tube but I'm so frustrated on finding a solution. The jet blast from the back of this boat is ridiculous!!! My older 242LS was way better at tubing.

I've tried goggles for the riders but that doesn't last long when they get thrown. I've added an extension plus 2 bungee extensions for a little more stretch away from the spray and NOTHING works. The longer rope now gets in the wake and sprays everywhere. I just don't know what to do. I know my kids are frustrated that the tubing isn't going well at all.

Can anyone help with a suggestion(s)?

I have a rope with a Booster ball that I haven't tried yet, along with the extensions. But the booster by itself, doesn't work either.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I'm not sure what your owner's manual recommends, but we do everything from off the tower!
Tubing, wake-boarding, skiing, and wake-surfing.
While tubing from the tower, we've added an additional 15' of line/rope (totaling 70'-75') to help in keeping the jet-wash outta everyone's face.
We hope you find that right combination (answer) where you'll share the "family fun", and put the frustration behind ya' when out on the water.

I'm sorry, but isn't getting a little wet part of tubing? Tell them to suck it up!

On our boat, when I'm FORCED to take kids on a tube (but only after they've wakeboarded and surfed), I'll do two 60' ropes together. The other option with just one 60' rope is to give them a little whip to push them outside of the wake.

When we had marathon sessions of tubing before the kids grew up, the tubes spent way more time swinging from side to side than being pulled in the jetwash. The jetwash was just momentary as they past across.

And yes, without starting a huge debate, as everyone should do what they are comfortable with, we always towed from the tower. No rope spray and much less chance of becoming a member of the "oops I sucked up my rope club" So much easier to monitor those ropes when you can see them mostly from end to end.

Longer rope and booster ball definitely cut down on jet spray for me.
A lot of jet spray hits mostly the ball.

I use a combination of pulling from the tower and a rope extension, and like @biffdotorg, the tube is swinging side to side so the spray isn't constant. I also don't have the throttle high enough to throw water that far very often. I use the jet wash to my advantage to soak the kids when I want to but it isn't easy, I have to be going pretty fast with full throttle. Most of my tubing the boat speed is under 20mph and I moderate the throttle to keep from hitting the tube. I name my tubing maneuvers, the jet wash soaking one is called the "Car Wash".

To each their own, but we never pull tubes from the tower.

I have a similar procedure when picking up down wakeboard and surf riders, especially if the bow is stuffed with women.

1. Rider falls
2. Cut throttle
3. Turn sharp into old wake
4. Throttle up slightly to ride up first wave
5. Cut throttle at peak of first wave and watch bow (and women) get soaked as the bow pierces through the crest of the second wake

Last year I had a perfect one - brought in about 6 inches of water into the entire boat at all the screaming!

Looks like every booster ball comes with only 60' of rope, while it seems many here say another 10-15' is where you need to be at to lessen or eliminate spray for your tubers directly behind the boat. Buy and try a few different items from Amazon to see what works, and send back the things that don't solve your problem.

Alternatively, maybe try running a modified "tower" pull. Dunno if you have a Y tow rope, or if you can fashion something similar, but try towing from the lowest section of the tower. Should get it out of the spray, you'll still probably need the booster ball, but it should work better with the rope higher.

Great suggestions but I'm not going to use the tower. I know its been, and probably always will, be a topic of discussion but slinging those boys around seems to be way too much stress on that tower.

I hit the lake again Wednesday for vacation and ill try the booster ball with my extensions and see of that helps.

Agree, keeping them on the outside of the wake is best.
