Just started surfing with my 195. Haven't ordered any ballast yet but had almost 700 lbs of people today and I was very close to going ropeless. I think I'm going to get a 800lb ballast and put it on the top section of the swim platform to start. I'd never surfed before a couple weeks ago but it's so fun and surprisingly easy to get up. I do skate and snowboard a lot so maybe that has something to do with it. Once I get a ropeless wake I'll post some videos.

What you need to get is the new custom 490 lb swim deck bag we have designed on the forum and @jcyamaharider provides thru Fat Sac. It is by far the biggest difference maker on my boat with trying various ballast placements and weight amounts. The bigger boat guys also have had great success with their respectively sized custom swim deck bags. Check out this thread for more pics and info https://jetboaters.net/threads/custom-swimdeck-ballast-bag-project.14048/

That wake looks great, can you go ropeless with it? So where can I get one of these bags. It's funny now all I want to do with my boat is go hopeless, and somehow fix my rub rail leak.

I see i can get them at www.gantlinproducts.com . For $325 is this a better option than a heavier bag that i just lay across the top of the swim platform?

Yes I also have a 750 lb bag and the 490 lb bag gets better results because I'm able to position the weight further to the side and further back than a bag that's just on the upper swim platform. The 490 lb bag creates a slight list on the boat which will make it want to turn in a long slow turn whatever side you have the bag on. If you try to counter the slight turn it causes the jet wash to flow back on top of the wave and wash out some height and lip (first time a single has had jet wash issues like the twins do :D). So to keep that from happening I just go with the flow so to speak and add in just a hair more turn and I mean very little and it cleans the wave right up and builds up nicely for a single engine jet boat. I haven't had time to surf on it. Every time I ask if one of my boating friends will be on the water that day or weekend they have other plans. Stars are not aligning for me to try it out behind the boat but I think it looks promising even for my big ass at 230 lbs, more so than any other ballast configuration or surf device I've made.

Yup you get the bag (and pump if you need it) from @jcyamaharider https://jetboaters.net/threads/19ft-transom-bag-order.18315/

If you think you have rub rail leaks now then I do not recommend putting the swim deck bag and a 750 lb bag on the same side or else you'll get a crazy list :D. With those two bags it was really too much for the boat to handle. Engine was near maxed out and I don't like to run it like that. Wave wasn't that much better than with just the 490 lb bag. It was a little meatier in the mid section. But it sure did look cool lol...

This image below is again with the 490 lb bag and the 750 lb bag on the same side. This is me counter steering to get the boat going straight to fight against the natural turn the listing is creating. Notice the wave is knocked down by the jet wash now. So just 'go with the flow' on the natural turn the boat wants to make as it cleans up the wave nicely as you can see in the pics above and these 19' boats can make a decent wave for a jet boat! You can see below in the back part of the wave there's the thick waterfall underneath. That's a tale tale sign of good power to surf a wave but because of the jet wash the pocket is smaller. So turn just a hair with the natural turn of the list and it's a different wave entirely.

Oh yeah with the 600 plus lbs of people on my boat the wake was over 3ft high and we had a lot of a lack in the line. I have nothing else to compare it to other than youtube, but for all the guys who say jet boats make a terrible wake are imo living in the 90s

I think you'll like the bag. It sounds crazy how a 490 lb bag could outperform even 1400 lbs but here to say it certainly does on my boat and it's all because of where you can put that swim deck bag. No other bags can get there and distribute that kind of weight in that specific area of the boat. I think we stumbled in a "sweet spot" for Yamaha jet boats and I'm sure anyone on here even the larger boat guys that also has the custom swim deck bag will agree it makes a huge difference over their other bags. Just look at all the great results and posts in that link to see they really do work. Kind of crazy when you think about it..... and mine wasn't even filled to the top!

With the new jet wash would a wake shaper now work on a single engine, or just go with the flow and save the dough?

Wake shaper will make it worse. Been there and done that. It causes even more counter steering. DIY surf gate v1.0

Everything was looking somewhat promising at first with no ballast bags and just about 600 lbs of humans...

However one I added about 1400 lbs of ballast the effect of the wake shaper became too great and chase my]e to have to countersteer VERY hard just to get the boat from going in a tight circle. It had that amount of effect!! Like throwing out a parachute or tossing an anchor :D. So just ended up with tons of jet wash (sorry bimini was in the way but trust me it looked even worse what you can't see lol)....

Can our boats really handle 1400 lbs of ballasts?

Depending on where you put it....yes. @swatski tried a ton on his 190 when he had it. But I wouldn't try it if using the swim deck custom bag lol. It was hard enough trying to get the boat from not plowing with just the additional 750 lb bag used with it. Not to mention the pump acted like it was begging for mercy. You have the larger 160mm pump so maybe it would handle it better. I can put 1400 lbs on the bench seats and not problem. Even putting a bag on the upper swim platform no problem. But put that swim deck bag on which sits on both upper and lower swim decks and you can forget the need for all that ballast. Start with the 490 lb bag and go from there if you need it but I think you'll likely find you won't need additional ballast by the time you have people onboard with the custom bag.

how easy is it to move that bag from one side of the swim platform to the other? I surf goofy and so do a few friends while most tho surf regular.

not meaning to hijack but is this bag also recommended for a 24' model?

Yes. Check out that link I posted about the custom bags. The 19' design originally started from there, I just tweaked it to fit our boat and made it like a trapezoid based off feedback. You can order one for your 24' here 21ft and 24ft transom ballast bags in stock!

I'm not one of those forum pussies who think they own the internet. I believe theres a 16 page thread on the 24ft linked in this thread. I'm almost through reading all the pages lol.

Has anyone taken video of the 19 ft surfing with the custom ballast bag? If not as soon as mine get delivered i'll take videos of us surfing. Just waiting now for a response so I can order one.

With about 600 lbs of people and learning more and more how to wakesurf 2 of us came really close to throwing the rope. Def getting pushed a bit more than earlier in the year.

AC0C5006-740C-44A9-AA26-921AD4D930CC.jpeg This a 450lb bag on the back. I think all I need is another bag in the locker and I got a winner.
If I would of had another person to drive the boat the wave was amazing when I had some human ballast in the back corner (especially when turning). I took a video but it doesn’t do it justice it’s just not a clear video. :winkingthumbsup"
