Hey! Had the same issue with my boat mats a while back. Before you shell out for new ones, definitely try these fixes:
For EVA foam mats:
- Clean both surfaces really well with degreaser/acetone
- Use marine-grade adhesive like 3M 5200 or Sikaflex - way better than regular glue for boat applications
- Clamp or weight it down for 24+ hours while curing
For rubber mats:
- Contact cement works great - apply to both surfaces, let get tacky, then press together
- Some people swear by Gorilla Glue for marine use
Pro tips:
- Make sure everything is bone dry before gluing
- Rough up smooth surfaces slightly with sandpaper for better adhesion
- Do the repair on a warm, dry day if possible
If the mat material itself is deteriorating, you might be stuck buying new ones. But if it's just the adhesive failing, the above should get you a few more seasons.
Also check if your mats are still under any warranty - some manufacturers will replace defective adhesive backing.
For what it's worth, I got about 3 extra years out of mine with a good re-glue job. Way cheaper than replacement!
What type of mats are they - the snap-in EVA foam ones or the rubber fitted mats?
