Holy Crap, I got a new BOAT!!!!

I unplug lights do not use do-dad and never had issue with brakes on this or any of 3 previous boats. IMO you should be able to back on flat ground without activating brakes but even slight uphill should activate them.

I bet your on to something there. Self pauses to protect the transducer.

Next question,,, Do you guys unplug your lights when dipping in? The reason I ask is because of the surge brakes and the little do-dad you place in the hole so the brakes do come on while backing without being plugged in. When I stop at the dock pre-stage location (perfectly flat) the tongue is collapsed enough that I can't get the plug in without blocking the trailer and pulling forward a little. Pain in the butt!!
Do you have a 7 pin plug or the 4 pin on your tow vehicle? If you have the 7 pin on your TV then the reverse light wire energizes a bypass solenoid in the tongue behind the surge brake actuator make the need for a lock out tab unnecessary. If you unplug your lights this will not work and then you will have to make sure the actuator is fully extended to be able to get the lock out tab in place. Thats an interesting contradiction in the trailer instruction manual where it says to disconnects the lights before dunking to keep from possibly blowing out the incandescent bulbs. I, as well as several others replaced our trailers run, stop, turn lights with sealed LED’s. If you need help sourcing that let us know.

i've never unplugged lights before dunking. i think my painted trailer came from yammi/shorelander with led lights?? will check.

I guess I thought my trailer already had LED's. I will need to check also. VHF radio and antenna installed and working today!

I thought the same about mine. I was sorely mistaken. I've since upgraded them to LED's when I had to replace a bulb.

Pick up one of these. It'll end the frustration those little keys will give you.

These are the shorelandr LED lights that bolted right on to my trailer and had the oem connectors. I think @drewkaree got some aftermarket ones that were a bit less expensive but I don’t know about the connections.

Other than the passenger side light that disappeared on my way home from Lake Mohave this year they have worked great over the last 30,000 miles. Much much brighter than the stock incandescent ones.

Left hand side-has the light that illuminates your license plate.

Right hand side

Looking at your tow rig I’m going to assume you have a 7 pin trailer plug so you shouldn’t have to worry about backing up anywhere as long as the trailer is plugged in.

I never unplug my lights (2016) and haven't had any issues. If I do blow a bulb, I'll replace with LEDs at that point. Makes reversing easy if the lights are plugged in.

my 2019 shorelander def has led lights. i got it new, assume they came that way from mfg? i doubt dealer would swap.
it also has 2 led side marker lights. maybe the old 24's got some 'upgraded' features?

Cool beans! My little clearance lights are LED, but the stop, turn, run lights were incandescent, as is the small three light, light bar on the bottom..once those fail it will become LED as well.
