Hey all,

New on here and new to jet boats. Had a Chaparral 230SSI and upgraded to a Yamaha 2024 255XD.

We are on a lake and mostly cruising and pulling the kids around on a tube. We are finding the jet blast to be a real problem. Read other posts on here and I don’t want to pull from the tower and have played with all sorts of rope combinations from 30/30 with a ball, so to 60 with no ball to 50/20 with a ball and all sorts of combinations in between but struggling to manage fun for the kids (shorter is better for getting out of the wake, but issues with the jet blast), to longer where I have no issue with jet blast but the rope is longer making it harder for us to have fun with them.

So … I am wondering about other Yamaha boats, most notably the 252SD and the 272SD. Given they they are not wake boats, is the jet blast as bad? I really like all the features and comfort on the 255XD (although we don’t use it as a wake boats, just a nice bow rider than we had), so I want to see if I can get the same set up but with less wake / jet blast?

Thanks in advance.

All jet boats will get excessive spray from the jets. I dont get much complaints from the riders. I use 65 feet and no booster ball. The light spray they get cools them off. I only tube from the lower hook not the tower
The tower wouldn't make a difference for the spray and it would get them even closer to the spray

Thanks, depends on the wind, but my riders are complaining about it hurting eyes and being uncomfortable … I get that getting wet is part of it but just want to see if other boats are not as bad if they are not wake boats.

The ball helps if I can keep it out of the wake in terms of maneuverability.

It’s not making it undoable, just want to see if a different boat is a better fit or if all of the jet boats are going to have the same issue (ie, it’s the exact same with all jet, the wake part has nothing to do with it).

A true wakeboat wont cause this. If you change to a different yamaha it will have the same effect.

I find it's best to minimize the time they spend directly behind the boat. If you keep them swinging from side to side they won't have much time to get hit with the jet spray. Also as mentioned it doesn't matter what model you go to, if it's a jet drive they'll get blasted by the spray. What part of Lake Gaston are you guys on? I rarely see any Yammis up there. I have a buddy who has a house close to MM2.

Similar question today, different boat, and your boat has the drive system However I do make specially designed custom steering for that setup as well maybe some of this info will assist you

Lots of posts over the years about towing tubes, Basically a longer rope 75 foot min. and inflate the tubes so they are more ridged to keep them from digging in to the water allowing them to slide on top of it. This requires less thrust and therefore less water spray. However when it comes to jet boats or P W C's towing tubes you really do need some real steering especially at plaining speeds, and this also makes it safer for retrieving people from the water because you can rapidly reduce your speed in a turn and maintain your steering . Plus the longer rope does make it harder to sling the tubes but the full time steering makes that easy. Now even when using a small P W C to tow tubes the full time steering is the answer. JeffWalkowiak Here is what I use to get the tubes inflated
