Lake Erie Algae Bloom

I've been boating on Lake Erie for many years and have tried to avoid the algae blooms as much as possible in my twin engine inboard SeaRay. Recently I purchased a Yamaha SX 190. My question is, is it advisable to run the Jet boat in the algae contaminated water. I have no way around it as it covers most of the western basin west of Cedar Point. I know it's harmful to boating and fishing equipment and possibly can make you sick but will it damage the jet pump and dry up in the engine. I appreciate any reply.

No idea if your algae is different than mine, but there's no avoiding it on the waters I boat on. MAYBE it'll show up eventually, but I'm going on 5+ seasons with no issues. I wouldn't worry about it at all

The biggest issue we had with our Bertram in Port Clinton was the strainers would clog and the engines would run hot. With the jetboat, it’s going to pee that algae out as it cools the engine. I think you will be fine. I would be more worried about that seaweed that comes down from Lake St. Clair, still waiting for them to fill in that lake and make it a parking lot, or the shallows/weeds by Catawba and Marblehead.
