I just had my brakes replace on the driver side and the tire shop put on some rotors on that they had taken off another trailer.

The center hub diameter is larger than the one they took off and now my black rubber cap won’t fit on. Is it super important that I address this or is it okay to launch the boat tomorrow as it is? We’re on vacation so I need to know ASAP. Thank you!

Your missing the Bearing Buddy. The black cap goes on the part

That bearing is open completely to the elements. If you dunk it into the water, you’re getting water directly into your bearing cavity. If the hub/rotor is damaged to where a bearing cap doesn’t fit appropriately, you need to. At the very least, you need to try to get a bearing cap on there. If it’s loose, and doesn’t stay on, you could use something to keep it on temporarily to get you by, but I do not recommend dunking it as is. As mentioned, the rubber cap goes over the bearing cap, which is normally a bearing buddy on boat trailers.

When I worked as a DOT officer CMV drivers would cut a pop bottle in half and then tape it to the hub to somewhat protect it. That would be enough to get them clear of the out of service order! 😂

wrap some seran wrap on at the boat launch then pull it off when parking and re wrap at the pull out especially in salt water

What others have said - you're missing the cap and don't dunk that when it's open. Measure the inside diameter and, if the installer can't give you a cap, NAPA or an auto parts store should have one.

Swing by the marine shop on the way the launch. You don’t need a bearing buddy, but you should have a cap. Last cap I bought was a couple of bucks.
