Old jet boat value?

I was in a bar talking about my FSH jet boat and this guy comes up and says he has a old jet boat he just wants to get rid of. 455 Olds and Berkley pump I looked at it from the outside it has been tarped for some time. He wants 2 grand says he has over that in the motor and could just take it out. Any ideas??? he said i can pull tarps and start it with a new battery, what should I look for or should I just leave it alone. Fresh water only on lakes around here upstate NY. Outside looked good and inside he said was nice? I will see. Pump looked nice on the outside.

I would never buy a car or boat without being able to test drive it. With a jet boat, just because the motor runs doesn't mean it will move on the water....lots of variables there that could cost you a lot of money. So put it on the water, and if it hauls ass....buy it!

If the seller doesn't want to water test it....RUN AWAY....as fast as you can!

Sounds like a project boat, could be fun.
I would say that sea trial is optional, what exactly do you expect to buy for 2k?

Depends on if parts are even available...if they aren't, then it could be 2K + dump fee....

Any decent shape bbc berkeley pump boat can go for 5k all day in socal. Even 1970s

A nice 455 olds motor is worth some coin.
They are getting harder to come by now

I think you should double-check to make sure what kind of pump it has and what size pump. Then check out the motor and hear it run! The pump if berkeley or hamilton can get parts and such so not big deal other than possible cost. For 2k it's not a huge investment and if you get it running you could run it for a year and turn a profit too!

I would love to see this boat on the Hudson! Boats like this were pretty common when I lived in Arizona but I've never seen one out here. The engine parts should be available as well, although the Olds parts always seemed to be about double what a similar Chevy part costs.
