Last year for long-term winter storage outdoor in MO I had our 220 shrink wrapped. It cost about 500.00 for them to do it. I'm trying to decided if it's worth the cost or just to use the factory mooring cover this year. Anyone do this? What are your opinions on one or the other?

Thanks in advance.

Is it going to be exposed to snow, if so i would put a plastic tarp over the tower and the moring cover. Snow will slide off easily

Yes we usually get a 2-3 good snows a years. I hadn't thought about the tarp idea. That seems like it would be just as effective for a fraction of the cost

If you get the tarp tight the snow will slide off and if it is a quality tarp you will get many years out of it.

Did the tarp cover one time and it was a disaster. I was chasing a snowstorm at Belleayre Mountain storm of the decade with the bullseye at the mountain. Woke up in the morning to a meager 8'' the storm tracked south and pummeled long island with 30+ inches of wet / icey snow. Came home to see it stuck to the tarp and imploded into the boat destroying the cover and pooling poles about 50 gallons of water under 6'' of crusty ice and 1 foot of snow. I cant believe the windshield didn't explode never again. lots of water also drained unnoticed into the hull and stayed trapped until spring.

I did the tarp thing for years in New England with never am issue. I didn't use anti pooling poles. I used a stack of plastic milk crates in the bow and in the cockpit. Forget how many crates but like 5 in the stern and 4 in the bow. Had a folded crap towel on the top of each. 6 years with the same tarp and cover underneath with plenty of snowstorms

The other option is to get a boat cover that goes over the top of the entire boat. That is all I use on my boat and the snow sticks for a bit then slides off. Putting some sort of support under the cover is a good idea, most shrink wrap outfits use 2x4’s for support. Personally, I can’t see spending $500 on something that gets discarded at the end of winter. Buy a good quality boat cover that goes over the entire boat and you can re use it each year, or use it all year long.
