I have a 2012 Limited S and I absolutely love it.
Considering a new E series...
One question is how much different is the sound with the new sound dampening enhancements? Are we in the same range as typical stern drive now?

I would say close. Until you get to WOT, and then she is still a bit of a screamer... But not bad. Just not really quiet, like a well appointed I/O.
The cool thing is, you do not need to do anything and it is okay out of the box. I spent thousands of $ and weeks of labor with my 2012 SX190, and I was NOT at the same level of sound deadening as my new 2016. (2016 is more quiet). Just to give you some points of reference.

Re: E-throttles, I would not want them until batteries' voltage reading and reverse limiter quirks (stupid design issues) are resolved.
