Starter Replacement Questions

Hello!

I've been looking through this forum for a while now, but I finally decided to make a post, hoping I could get some help. It's been my father's dream for a while to become a boat owner, and we finally landed a great deal on a 2000 Yamaha LS2000 last fall. Unfortunately, all the fun didn't last for too long, as one of the engines stopped turning over. Thus, my father and I tried for months, scouring different forums, Youtube, the service manual, and plenty of other resources for a potential fix. As of now, we bought a new starter and uninstalled the old one. We tried installing the new one, but it seems like the Bendix is stuck in the way of where the starter is supposed to slide in. With our limited knowledge on the subject, I was hoping for some help on what we may doing wrong in hopes of getting that engine to work. Any thoughts, comments, or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and happy Easter!

Does it match up exactly to the old starter that you removed? If it does than its all a matter of getting the right angle to get it in. If it is not the exact same dimensions than get the correct one

The starter relays fail more frequently than the starters themselves. Did you jump directly from the battery to the starter before you removed the old starter?

Anyway, sometimes the starters are hard to install because of the O-rings. Smear some grease on it, then try to tap it in with a rubber mallet.
