I did my yearly maintenance last week and this year I put too much oil. I took it out this weekend and noticed that didn't want to rev pass 6000 rpms. At first I thought it was a loose hose or something, checked everything and all was in its place. Shut off and turned on the engine a multiple of times and nothing. After having the boat idling for about 10 mins and multiple tries to the throttle it finally went up to 8300 rpms and we were moving.
I was able to enjoy the day but it kept me thinking because in 10 years of owning the boat this has been the first time having an issue with it.
I came home, and checked the oil level and sure enough it had way too much (passed the second hole) I'm currently extracting the oil and I've extracted about 1qt to finally hit the center of the 2 holes.
This writing is to see if I have to check anywhere else for any possible damage caused by the excess of oil if any?
I'm not a mechanic (not even closed to be one) but my thinking was that once the oil was able to heat or the motor was able to reach its temperature and the oil got less dense (less viscosity???) the engine was able to rev to where it was supposed to.
Have any of you done the same? Did I damaged something with the excess oil?
Thanks in advance!

On my 2007 MR-1 overfilling can lead to pumping oil into the air box via the breather hose. That can flood and plug the air box breather hose filter so that the valve cover gets pressurized and pushes out the semi-circular tabs on the valve cover gasket.

I have heard the same thing. If you over fill oil it-will spurt into the air filter a bog down the engine. Just remember (my engine) the engine requires 4qts of oil, but since we cannot drain from the bottom, chances of you fully removing all oil is not likely. I always change my oil on the trailer and add about 3qts, drop the boat in the water and check the oil from a “level” standpoint, not on the trailer, and add until I reach the desired level on the dip stick. You may hold up a dock at the ramp an extra minute or so, but it’s time we’ll spent.
