Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
I'm looking at a jetboat; first deal on a 195 fell thru, now looking at the 165. How would this be for casual waterskiing behind? Can a decent water skier weighing 200 # get up easily enough?
I've covered this before, but a 150HP 165 has ZERO issues pulling a skier unless you're some world class skier. In that case, you shouldn't be getting a 165. lol
In the words of my brother in law the first time I pulled him (weighing about 200lbs), "You damn near ripped my arms off on takeoff".
LOL, I remember being on a 3-seater Seadoo Jetski with my buddy on the back and pulling a water skier weighing more like 250 lbs. He didn't think it would pull him either. He made the same exact comment about ripping his arms off. Funny...
From last weekend I skiied 1st time in 32 summers.. YES the 165 ghost can pull my 255lbs around the lake....
Also- if you don't have ski mode, dock starts help keep you from having your arms yanked & used a longer rope, to avoid the rougher patch of water behind the jet.
