Dear all,

I am installing a Garmin UHD 94sv without transducer on my brand new 222S. I am struggling where to connect the power 12V wire. I want the GPS to turn on and off with the main switch. Any recommendation? Does someone have pictures where they got the 12V from? TIA

What do mean by “the main switch”?

Most of these boats come with one or two ACC switches on the dash, does yours not have any?

He's probably talking about the house battery switch.

That would require running a set of wires from the battery compartment and fusing it separately… the ACC switches that come with the boat usually have circuit breakers that can be changed out to the appropriate size.

The good thing about running electronics off the house battery with the OEM BEP battery switch is that said electronics are protected from large voltage transients during engine start up.

I don't believe the 222S has physical switches. Really need clarification on what he means.

I responded to OPs post on Facebook but for others coming here or if he didn't see them, we do offer a harness to integrate the OEM transducer into the Garmin units.

Yes, the boat has 2 physical ignition switches. I prefer to connect it from the house main switch but if you have any picture where I can connect the 12V wire on one of the ignition switches that will work. Thank you

We were referring to ACC switches, older boats have toggle switches to add accessories.

You would not want to power the Garmin off the key switch, you can use it to trigger a relay though. I am not sure which wire you would need, but it is very simply test with a digital multimeter. Then another part of the relay connected to the battery switch.

On the relay end, with a standard SPDT relay -
  • 86 goes to ignition turn on wire
  • 85 to ground and Garmin - (I would run a ground wire to battery)
  • 87 goes to the battery
  • 30 goes to the Garmin +

Thank you! My boat has only 2 push buttons... What is the best way to get the 12V power to the Garmin chartplotter? If you can provide pictures that will be great.

Running new components off of switches under the helm sounds like the easiest approach.

That post explained it in detail -

I am not sure of your skill level, however if you are not familiar with 12v electronics - I would probably hand this off to a pro, install should be around $200 from a shop.
