Bimini 7/7-7/12 2025

Oh and for the fuel talk we filled up at bimini and they were only able to put 12 gallons in. Tried over and over assuming it would be more. I know i used more than 12 gallons but just sayin!
After putting in the 12 gallons, running to sapona, honeymoon harbour, going around the east side of island and a few stops around north side of island for conch salad and bimini bread we are now down to a 1/4 tank meaning we used more fuel in a day of sightseeing than in the crossing. Still have 14 gallons in reserve on back deck.
How many miles was the crossing for you?

Thank you!
Just fyi the route 15 of 56 miles was our previous trip! Both trips i did not start tracking until OUT of fort Lauderdale and the i initial trip we had far more seaweed issues

Well this trips math shows 4.65 mpg which is pretty astounding… the only model I know of that gets that kind of mileage is the 190 FSH @4.5

The gas gauge and common sense show 25 gallons used. I would trust that more than the 12 gallons we tried putting in even if we tried multiple times and went as slow as the pump would let us. Still, 55 miles or so with 25 gallons used is 2.x miles per gallon? I call that a win for a boat with a crew of 5 and every opening crammed full of food. Thankful i had i stalled trim tabs to balance this thing!

So update to our crazy story.
1. Left home from Indiana and blew tire in Georgia.
2. Stayed a night in Tampa at SIL house and gathered supplies and replaced spare.
3. Cross the 5hour drive to port everglades, launched in the no seeums capital city and started across to Bimini.
4. Smooth waters, found dolphins and buddy boats along the way.
5. Customs total was $770. Pizza at big game with a couple drinks $108.
6. Bimini cove is better than our previous trip. Many more slip choices. New tiki bar/resteraunt at the pool which we spent a few hundred at over 3 days. Our room was a resort owned which wasnneaely as nice as the room we had last time but it was beds and showers and a place to cook. No tv.
7. Tuesday left time for sapona and honeymoon harbour. Ran to north side of north island and got some bimini bread and rum
8. Tuesday night chatted up some of the dock guys and unfortunately thursday-sunday were looking rougher not only for crossing back but in bimini as well. The one guy had a 375 intrepid and i took note how quick he was ready to leave on Wednesday. So we headed back after a storm Wednesday morning. It would have been monday otherwise but i don't like to leave on unknowns so we left early.
9. The cross back should have been 1.3 at most. We had overheating issues on occassion (like cmon why now) but once about halfway seemed to clear up as long as it was on plane. This meant a good bit of airborn boat as it seemed rougher than 1.3. Bimini snapped a bolt and the captains chair sheered bolts. With multiple weed clears and pug pulls we were in sight of the cities but decided since stopped we should dump the 14 gallon fuel cell in. Air pump put 5 psi snd it pumped out quick! Made it back and cbp roam app verified snd welcomed us home before we were even at the docks.

10. 2 hotel stays and about 16 hours of driving made it to Lake Cumberland Kentucky. Couple nights there eating at the marinas and flushing boat good and wiping everything down!
11. Had one more moment of overheating but also noticed extra water compared to normal so will be diving into this as soon as work gets back squared away! Wondering if a hose came loose or something during the rough crossing.

When's the last time you changed your oil? I had the exact same overheating issues start at the exact same time oddly enough. Spent the next few months ripping the whole boat apart trying to figure it out only for the issue to be that I hadn't changed the oil in 2 seasons (even though we barely drove it).

I change oil every spring. We only ran out on Lake Michigan twice. Checked oil level on lake Cumberland day we were leaving and it DID take over half a quart. Will be diving in more this week! With the amount of water that came out on last trailering i am looking for a leak i am guessing. The pee holes all showed good flow but if something is loose that would explain a lot. Every trip is like 3 hours of driving so it adds up.
