I was out on the water yesterday, and experienced a strange issue. I was motoring out of the Ocean City Inlet, and his some rough water big bump, the port motor cut off, but the starboard did not. I had a moment of panic, and could envision hitting the seawall, I can never seem to get the level into neutral as easily as I could on the older models, and managed to get back in calmer water and got the motor started again. Checked the rear deck and both plugs were still in etc.

An hour later hit a large boats wake, big bump again, and both engines cut out, but restarted right away. I assume it the rear hatch cut off button/ hatch loose, but why would only one engine cut out the first time? Could it be it was such a momentary thing that the cut off didn't go through all the way before resetting itself? Or could there be an issue with the port engine.

Thanks for any feedback

Definitely would check the cleanout hatch safety buttons/switches, probably out of adjustment. No answer to why one cut out before both cut out, but definitely sounds like the hatch safety switches.

100% your cleanout hatch safety switches aren't making full contact with the hatch itself, leading to it bouncing up slightly when hitting waves and killing the motor. Easy peasy fix, you can either adjust them by turning them out a little, or if they're turned out, people have added a little bit of material to the underside of the hatch. A cheap cutting board and some glue works.

Add the material, AND adjust the switches. The underside of the hatch will slowly wear away from the switches anyway, requiring adjustment, so start the process of making it easier now, while you must do some adjustments.

The extra piece just gets pulled or replaced, and slap a new one in.

Once you see how they get adjusted, it'll make sense why one might trip, and not the other. You also may have had the other one close to tripping the first time, but conditions were in your favor to leave you with one motor operating

I know my 2007 SX210 had two engine cutoff switches, but for the life of me I can only picture one on my current boat. I have to pull the cover off and check, but I only recall one in the center front edge of the hatch.

Thanks for the responses

I'd imagine you could probably test this with some playdough or clay - form a cylinder around the switches at the height of the switches, then close the hatch and see how far down it smushes the material down.
